Tijara Fort Palace Review: Our Family Stay Near Delhi

The rain started at the wrong time. We reached Tijara Fort Palace at around 3 or 4 in the afternoon, near the end of October, and it came down hard enough to change the whole look of the property. The old walls went darker, the gardens looked freshly washed, and the evening felt far cooler than I had expected. It was not planned, but it became one of my favourite parts of this family stay.

This was a birthday trip for Aryan, and I wanted a short break that did not require a long drive from Gurgaon. I had already heard plenty about Neemrana Fort Palace. Tijara Fort felt like the quieter alternative, with more open greenery, less exhausting movement inside the property, and enough heritage character to make one night feel different from an ordinary hotel stay.

The video shows the complete walk from the entrance to the main palace areas, our room, the gardens, high tea, evening views and the next morning. I have kept this article focused on the questions I would have wanted answered before booking a family stay.

First impression after the rainy arrival

Cars are not driven through the main hotel grounds. We parked near the entrance and moved inside with the help of the property’s electric cart. That arrangement matters because the fort is spread across a hilltop site. You will still walk, but you are not forced to carry luggage through every path and staircase.

The rain delayed our first walk, so we sat with the family and watched the weather settle. Once it cleared, the soft evening light made the pink and earthy buildings stand out against the green gardens. The property did not feel crowded during our visit. There were other guests around, yet it never turned noisy or rushed.

One practical warning: this is still a heritage property with uneven paths, slopes and steps. The electric cart makes a real difference, especially with children, luggage or senior citizens, but it does not turn the fort into a flat modern hotel. The official property FAQ advises guests with accessibility needs to inform the reservations team in advance so a suitable room can be discussed.

What the fort feels like from inside

Tijara Fort Palace is a restored 19th-century fort-palace in the Alwar district of Rajasthan. The official hotel listing places it at Hasanpur Mafi, Tijara. From inside, the most noticeable thing is the space. Gardens, courtyards, old facades and open views are connected by stone paths instead of being squeezed into one hotel block.

I liked the greenery more than I expected. There are lawns, trimmed trees, flowering plants and a lotus pond, with the old structures rising behind them. It gives you plenty of places to sit without feeling that you must keep moving from one attraction to another.

The lotus pond was one of the quieter corners of the property.

There were monkeys in parts of the property. They did not trouble us, but I would still avoid leaving food or loose bags unattended. That is a small detail, though it is the kind of detail a polished hotel listing usually skips.

Our Jai Shri Mahal room

We stayed in Jai Shri Mahal on the second floor. The room was large, and the heritage furniture and architecture made it feel connected to the palace rather than decorated like a themed modern room. In the vlog, I was told it had been the queen’s room. I am treating that as information shared during the stay, not as a separately verified historical claim.

The space worked well for our family. It did not feel tight after the luggage came in, and the second-floor position added to the sense of staying inside a fort. I also noticed the use of glass water bottles, a simple choice that I appreciated.

Heritage rooms can vary a lot within the same property, so our experience should not be read as a promise that every room has the same layout, stairs or view. If mobility, room position or a particular view matters, confirm the exact room arrangement before paying.

The property still has steps and sloping paths despite the electric cart service.

High tea was one of the better pauses

The high-tea area is separate from the spaces used for dinner and breakfast. We had tea with small sandwiches, fried snacks and chutneys while looking across the property. The food was good, but the setting did as much work as the plate. After the rain, sitting around that blue table with the family felt relaxed and unhurried.

This was not a trip built around restaurant hunting. The meal breaks were part of the stay, and high tea suited that mood. I would not book the hotel only for a snack spread, but I would make time for it rather than treating it as something to rush through.

Dinner, breakfast and the birthday cake

Dinner and breakfast were served as buffets during our visit, with vegetarian and non-vegetarian choices. We ate comfortably and found the food satisfactory. I am not going to pretend that one buffet plate can prove what the menu will be on every date, because hotel spreads can change with occupancy and events.

The warmer moment came at the birthday celebration. The property arranged a complimentary cake for Aryan. It was a thoughtful gesture, and it gave the trip a personal memory beyond the room and architecture. If you are travelling for a birthday or anniversary, ask the hotel what can be arranged rather than assuming the same inclusion applies to every booking.

Is Tijara Fort Palace suitable for families and senior citizens?

For our family, yes. The grounds gave Aryan space to move, the pace was calm, and the electric cart reduced unnecessary walking. I found the internal movement easier than Neemrana Fort Palace, where narrow and steep staircases can make the visit tiring.

Still, I would not describe Tijara Fort as effortless for every guest. There are steps and sloping sections, and room location matters. Families with a stroller or anyone with limited mobility should speak to reservations before arrival, explain the exact need and request a practical room location. That conversation is more useful than relying on a general label such as “family friendly.”

Tijara Fort Palace or Neemrana Fort Palace?

If you want a busier, more famous fort experience with a stronger evening buzz, Neemrana may appeal more. Tijara felt calmer and greener to me. It had fewer moments where I felt I was climbing through a tight maze of stairs, and the cart support made the family stay simpler.

Neemrana also has a more familiar name, and some travellers may prefer that energy. My own choice for a relaxed repeat stay would be Tijara. The quieter grounds suited us, especially with a child and a family celebration. This is a personal comparison based on my visits, not a claim that one hotel is better for every traveller.

The difference becomes clearer after sunset. Neemrana can feel like the main event, with more people moving through the fort and a busier atmosphere. At Tijara, our evening was slower. We walked, sat with the family and watched the buildings light up without feeling that we were missing a scheduled attraction. Someone seeking nightlife or a packed activity list may find that too quiet. I did not.

How we reached Tijara from Gurgaon

Our drive from the Gurgaon side took roughly one and a half to two hours. The route and timing can change with traffic, road work and the exact starting point. We had the option of approaching through the expressway side or the older highway route. Check live navigation on the day instead of treating our drive time as fixed.

The fort is near Tijara in Rajasthan’s Alwar district, surrounded by fields and lower Aravalli terrain. The last part feels more rural than the departure from Gurgaon. Keep the official hotel contact and booking details handy in case the map pin or approach road creates confusion.

Planning a one-night stay

One night was enough to experience the room, high tea, dinner, breakfast and a proper walk through the main grounds, but it was not enough to use every facility. Arriving by mid-afternoon worked well for us despite the rain. It gave us daylight for the first look and a second chance to see the property the next morning.

I would pack comfortable footwear with grip. The stone and sloping surfaces can be awkward after rain, and dress shoes are not the clever choice for a long property walk. Keep a light layer for the evening too. Our late-October weather changed quickly once the rain came through.

Ask what your meal plan includes before arrival. High tea, dinner and breakfast were part of our experience, but package inclusions can vary. Confirm check-in timing, the assigned building and whether the electric cart can assist at arrival, particularly if you are travelling with luggage, a small child or someone who cannot manage repeated steps.

What we missed during this visit

We did not use the swimming pool, and we did not inspect every section of the property. Rain and a one-night family schedule shaped the visit. I would rather say that plainly than turn a partial stay into a complete facility inspection.

We also did not record a room-rate recommendation because prices vary by room, date, meal plan and booking channel. The sensible comparison is the final price for your exact dates, including taxes and meals, against the official booking page and any reputable platform you normally use.

My honest Tijara Fort Palace review

Tijara Fort Palace worked for the trip we wanted. It was close enough to Gurgaon for a short break, visually interesting without being exhausting, and calm enough for family time. The rain made the first few hours inconvenient, but it also gave us the fresh gardens and soft evening light that I remember most clearly.

The property is not flawless. Heritage paths and stairs can still be awkward, the monkeys deserve basic caution, and a one-night stay did not let us test every facility. None of those points would stop me returning. I would choose it again when I wanted a quiet family stay rather than a packed sightseeing schedule.
