About the Organisation – Lok Marudhar Nritya
Most of us have heard a lot about Rajasthani folk dance. They are famous all over the world for unique costumes and dance forms. You will find many such dance organised around Rajasthan especially in Jaiselmer. However, there are few places where you can watch and learn about the history of the various dance forms. One such old and famous dance is the Dharohar dance that happens at 7pm in Bagore ki Haveli.
Another newly formed event is the Lok Marudhar Nitrya created by the locals of Rajasthan displaying beautiful art form using dance.
Lok Marudhar Nritya is a traditional folk dance form that originates from the Marwar region of Rajasthan, India. It is a lively and energetic dance performed by both men and women, usually during festive occasions and celebrations. The dance involves rhythmic movements, footwork, and gestures that depict the rich cultural heritage and traditions of Rajasthan. Dance Forms
There are a total of seven dance forms presented over a period of an hour. The show starts with the famous – Padharo mhare desh song sung by two singers on the tabla..
चारी नृत्य (Chari dance)
It is the folk dance of Gujjar community. The female dances lit fire in pots and place them over their head. They then perform this dance form.

The dance involves balancing brass pots called “charis” on the head while gracefully moving and dancing. तेरा ताली (Tera taali)
This folk dance is performed by Kamar tribes. The female dancer sits on the ground. Manjiras are tied to different parts of the body. The head is covered with a hat or petha. The dancer plays music using different parts of manjira giving different sound while playing.
कठपुतली नृत्य (Kathputli dance)
There are a lot of kathputli dances that you must have seen. If not, this one is worth a try. There are two kathputli dance presented by local artist.
अनारकली (Anarkali)
The female puppet, called anarkali is presented and danced around with her lehnga
जादूगर डींग डांग (Magician dingdong senior)
The male puppet is known as magician Dingdong senior. The presentor shows various acts with the puppet like pulling his head, legs, hands etc.
मयूर नृत्य (Mayur dance)
As the name suggests, it is basically a dance form where one dance is a peacock while there is a female dancer. This form is actually a tribute to the love between Lord Krishna and Radha.

रेगिस्तानी कालबेलिया (Desert kalbeliya)
The Kalbelia are a snake charming tribe from the Thar Desert in Rajasthan, India. The dance is an integral part of their culture and performed by men and women. The dress of this dance is also unique. It is a black printed lehnga.

भवाई नृत्य (Bhawayi dance)
This dance form is an art of balancing. The dancer commenses the dance placing multiple earthen pots on their heads. The number of pots keep increasing while they perform on other items like balancing on plates, metal pots, picking notes from the ground etc.
घूमर (Ghoomer)
The famous ghoomer happens at the end of the session. The people in public can also join in this dance. At the end of it, you can click pictures with the artists and pay them specially which is completely voluntary.
How to Reach – Lok Marudhar Nritya Show
The dance is very close to Rani road. It will take around 5mins via auto to reach the place. It is in the middle of the old Udaipur City.
Entry fees and timings – Lok Marudhar Nritya show
The first show starts at 11am and takes a stretch of an hour. The corresponding shows commence after 30mins till 7pm. The ticket price is 250/- This is a little expensive than the Dharohar dance but worth the price as the number of dances here are more.
