Top places to explore in Jaipur – Golden Triangle part 2

Jaipur is the most Rajasthani place you will ever visit. The city has beautiful palaces, amazing architecture, elephant rides and the most amazing Rajasthani market. So let us explore the city, know the process to plan a trip to Jaipur to the fullest.

How to reach Jaipur

The distance from Delhi to Jaipur is around 280km. The city is well connected via road (Delhi Jaipur expressway) and via train as well. 

If you plan to go on your own vehicle, you can take the expressway route. There are also many buses available from Kashmere gate. If you are living in Gurgaon, you can get buses at your convenience from IIFCOO chowk. You can also book the bus online from the private websites of Rajasthan roadways website. Here you will find a variety of bus options from sleeper to AC.

In case you plan to travel via rail medium, there are a lot of trains from all parts of India to Jaipur.

Top Attractions

Hawa Mahal

This is one of the most iconic places situated on the busiest road of Jaipur. This palace is visible from the road. It looks iconic at night with all the lights. On the inside, there is a large terrace, many small lanes that are built to take you to the top floor where you can have the view of the entire city. There is a puppet show that happens inside the palace every few hours. This place is prominently pink so a part of credit for this city being called the pink city goes to this one. 

Fees and timings

The palace opens at 9am and closes at 5pm. The entry fee is 50/- INR. You can buy a combined ticket for all the places mentioned below from Hawa Mahal as well. The ticket will be valid for 2 days. There are student discounts also in case you present a student ID.

Jantar Mantar

On the opposite side of Hawa Mahal is Jantar Mantar which was built as an instrument to measure time, month, eclipses and so on. In our to understand this place to the fullest, taking a guide is recommended. You can even club a guide with people around and visit the Jantar Mantar.

Fees and timings

The ticket price is 300/- INR.

The place is open from 9am to 4:30 pm

City Palace

The city palace is the most beautiful palace you will find in Jaipur. The place is beautiful and very photogenic. You will get a glimpse of how the royals used to live. The architecture and designs are very Rajputana and artistic. Most of the colors of this place are pink. You can even go for a vintage ride.

Fees and timings

The ticket price is 700/- INR

The place is open from 9am to 7:30pm

Chandpole Bazaar

This famous market has all the Rajasthani stuff you will ever want. From bangles, bandani dupatta, juttis, puppets to other handcraft stuff. You will find everything in this market. Make sure you bargain. There are also various items that you can buy from the Hawa Mahal road. Most of the items are handmade by the local artists ,do support them.

Albert Hall Museum 

This museum is situated in the heart of the city and you will find it while coming to Jaipur. It looks like a beautiful fort from outside and brightens up in night light. The lightning done is so visually appealing, it changes color too. However, you visit the museum if you have interest in art and glimpses of history. Otherwise give it a miss.

Fees and timings

The ticket price is 300/- INR

The timings are 9am-5pm, then it closes for two hours. It again opens from 7pm-10pm

Patrika Gate

This is present in the Jawahar circle. This is basically a garden with architectural beauty all around and a gate designed with vibrant colors. The place is popular among people for evening outings and even pre wedding shoots. There are no entry fees or entry timings to visit this place.

Jal Mahal

Situated on the Amer road, you will spot this space while traveling to Amer fort. This monument is built right in the middle of the Man Sagar Lake. Around the lake, you will find a park where people come to feed birds in the morning and spend some time in the evening. This place is usually busy in the evening. There are no entry fees or timings to visit this place.

Amer Fort

This fort is one of the main spots to visit in Jaipur. There are many small palaces inside the fort. You can park your vehicle in the parking area or enjoy an elephant ride up to the fort. The elephant ride is only available in the morning. The entry can be done via two gates and it’s easy to walk up. The complete tour will take around 2 hrs. There are various spots where you can see the great walls built to safeguard the palace, Nahargarh fort is also visible from this place. The Seesh Mahal looks so beautiful and how amazing it is carved. You will surely find so many beautiful spots to get the city view as well. It is said that there was a direct pathway from Amer fort to Nahargarh fort which is not closed. On the exit, there is a shop that sells souvenirs and books. There are also few food stalls inside the food for refreshments.

Fees and timings

The fort opens at 8am and closes by 9pm.

The ticket costs 500/- INR. The cost of an elephant ride is 1100/- INR.

Panna Meena ka Kund

Very close to the Amer fort is the Panna Meena ka kund.This spot basically is a stairway to a deep well where they used to store rainwater in the early days. Now the well is abandoned but looks pretty beautiful. 

Fees and timings

The place opens at 7am and closes at 7pm. There is no ticket to visit this place.

Light and Sound show

Inside the Amer fort, there is a light and sound show that you can experience in the evening. The show runs in both languages – Hindi and English. The runtime is 1 hour. With the medium of light, the history of Jaipur , Amer, their kings, battles etc is explained. You will surely enjoy the experience if you have never seen a light and sound show before.The entry gate of the light and sound show is different from the Amer for visiting the fort. The tickets are also available on the other gate.

Fees and timings

The ticket costs 250/-. The English show starts at 6:30 pm followed by a Hindi show for one hour. No photography is allowed during the show.

Nahargarh Fort

This fort is situated on a hill very close to Amer fort. The roads are beautiful but very curved and steep at times so a proper driver is needed or better to take local transportation to reach this place. The road also gives a good view of the Jal Mahal. The fort is not as huge as the Amer fort, and has minimal belongings on display from that era. The place is famous for its sunset and that is the reason people visit this place in the evening. Be careful while coming back from the fort in the evening as the roads have very sharp turns.

The ticket costs 200/- INR

The visiting time is 10am to 10pm

Galta ji Temple

Also known as the monkey temple, this place is worth visiting to enjoy the panoramic city view. You can take a taxi to the top of the temple. There are many monkeys so take off your belongings. The temple is really beautiful and worth a visit. You can also go to Sisodia Rani ka Bagh post the visit as it is also nearby.

Fees and timings

There is no ticket cost. 

The visiting time is 5am to 9pm.

Gatore ki Chattriyan

This place is a hidden gem of Jaipur. It seems to be an abandoned place, but are actually cenotaps. The monuments are made of marble and are brilliant in their architecture. Many famous king’s reside in this place. Surrounded by mountains, this place really looks like a completely different part of Jaipur.

Fees and timings

The ticket costs 30/-.

The entry timings are 10am to 6pm

Shri Garh Ganesh ji Temple

Very close to the Gatore is Chattriyan, a pathway just on the right side of the gate. If you keep on climbing the pathway, you will be able to visit the Ganesh ji temple. The temple is on the top of the hill and the entire city is visible from this point. The trek is easy and you will be able to complete it in 20 mins. The place is really peaceful. You can spend some time here and enjoy the lovely view. There are no fees or timing to visit this place. 

There are few other options in case you want to visit like Jaigarh fort which is in the middle of Amer and Nahargarh fort, Sisodia Rani ka Bagh in Lal Dungri. It is a beautiful garden with fountains ideal for a picnic if you have some free time. 

Stay Options in Jaipur

The city has all kinds of budget range options. If you are traveling by car, prefer to stay in the outskirts of the city as the traffic in the main city(near Hawa Mahal) becomes difficult to manage during the day/evening. It is best suited to rent a bike and stay in this area. Most of the places near Hawa Mahal can be traveled on foot and you can go to Nahargarh and Amer fort on scooty/bike. You can even travel around in local auto popularly known as tuktuk. Be careful to be not overcharged.

If you are staying near Hawa Mahal, you can stay in Zostel Jaipur. It is situated near a small lane where there are a lot of food options.  You can even cook your own food here or ask for the food at extra cost. 

If you want to stay a little outside the city, you can stay in Amer Valley Jaipur. The hotel provides a decent stay experience and is near Amer fort.

If you want some extravagant experience, you can visit Trident Jaipur which is reviewed as the best experience of Jaipur hotel.

Must try Food options

Dal Baati Churma Restaurant 

The authentic Rajasthani food is the Daal Baati Churma. If you plan to try some of them, do visit Dal Baati Churma restaurant in Jaipur. You can also try Rajasthani thali.

Sharma Lassi Wala

There are many shops that sell Lassi on the Hawa Mahal Rd. The taste is delicious and provides a great relief in scorching heat.  You can try from any shop that you like, one such recommendation is given below.

Wind view cafe

If you are a foreigner, you can definitely check out this place for non Indian breakfast options. Even for the locals, there are a lot of options to eat and cold coffee is personally recommended. The USP of this place is that it gives you a view of the Hawa Mahal. You sure must have seen this place in many pre wedding shoots.

Other points to note

  • While Jaipur is very safe for travelers, make sure you are not looted by the locals. 
  • In case you know driving, opt for a two wheeler to avoid traffic and explore the city on a rented bike or scooty. You can find many options online. 
  • All attractions mentioned are consolidated in order of their distance to each other. So you can plan or skip places accordingly. Divide your days as per places nearby and timings they open. Most of the places have food options nearby too. 
  • Stay hydrated, Jaipur has a very warm temperature, so keep water with you everywhere. Avoid going to visit during the summers.

Three days itinerary (Delhi to Jaipur)

Day 1: Delhi to Jaipur

Morning:

  • Depart from Delhi early in the morning to make the most of your day.
  • Travel by train, bus, or car (approximately 5-6 hours drive) to Jaipur.

Afternoon:

  • Arrive in Jaipur and check in to your hotel.
  • Enjoy a traditional Rajasthani lunch at a local restaurant.

Evening:

  • Visit Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds), an iconic Jaipur landmark.
  • Explore the bustling local markets at Johari Bazaar and Bapu Bazaar for shopping and souvenir hunting.
  • Have dinner at a local restaurant, trying Rajasthani specialties.

Day 2: Exploring Jaipur

Morning:

  • After breakfast, visit Amber Fort, a majestic hilltop fort known for its intricate architecture and panoramic views. You can choose to take an elephant ride or use a jeep to reach the fort entrance.
  • Explore the fort’s various sections, including the Diwan-e-Aam, Diwan-e-Khas, and Sheesh Mahal.

Afternoon:

  • Enjoy lunch at a restaurant near Amber Fort.

Afternoon:

  • Visit the City Palace, a magnificent complex that houses museums, courtyards, and impressive architecture.
  • Explore Jantar Mantar, an astronomical observatory with fascinating instruments.
  • Take a photo stop at the iconic Albert Hall Museum.

Evening:

  • Head to Nahargarh Fort to enjoy panoramic sunset views of the city. You can have dinner at the fort’s restaurant.

Day 3: Return to Delhi

Morning:

  • Check out of your hotel and have breakfast.
  • Visit the famous Jal Mahal, a picturesque palace located in the middle of Man Sagar Lake.

Late Morning:

  • Explore the local markets for some last-minute shopping or sightseeing.

Afternoon:

  • Enjoy a final Rajasthani meal for lunch.

Evening:

  • Depart from Jaipur for your return journey to Delhi.

However, it’s worth noting that this is also the peak tourist season, so expect larger crowds and higher prices for accommodations.

Are 2 days enough for Jaipur?

While two days in Jaipur can give you a glimpse of the city’s highlights, it may feel a bit rushed to explore all of its attractions and immerse yourself fully in its rich culture. However, with proper planning and prioritization, you can make the most of your time in Jaipur. In two days, you can visit popular attractions like the Amer Fort, City Palace, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, and explore the bustling markets of Jaipur.
You can also enjoy traditional Rajasthani cuisine, witness a folk dance or music performance, and experience the vibrant local culture. If you have more time, extending your stay to three or four days would allow for a more relaxed and comprehensive exploration of Jaipur, including visits to additional sites like Nahargarh Fort, Jaigarh Fort, Albert Hall Museum, and exploring the local bazaars for shopping. Ultimately, the duration of your stay depends on your interests and preferences. Two days can provide a good introduction
