Best places to explore in Delhi – Golden Triangle Part 1

Delhi is one of the most developed cities in India. But the city also has many historical relevance which you find when visiting here. In this blog, we will cover some common, and some offbeat places that you must visit in Delhi in case you plan to visit. If you are traveling to any place from Delhi and have a day or two in hand, do check out some of the options mentioned below. Most of the places you must have heard or seen in movies and the relevance to them is more than that when you visit.

Checkout this video to know about the places you can explore near this fort. Please consider subscribing to my youtube channel if you find this information useful.

Hauz Khas Village

The Hauz Khas village has a number of cafes and restaurants with a backdrop of a beautiful lake. There is also a fort inside the village where you can take a tour. Most of them are the remains of the Mughal empire. You can take a walk around the lake. Close to the fort, there is also a deer park which you can visit. The area is mainly forest land and a wide variety of birds, bats , and other wild animals can be found here.

The social life of Hauz Khas is equally exciting. Most of the cafes are situated along a narrow lane. There is a limited parking area and can get congested during busy nights. My personal recommendation is the Hauz Khas Social which has a really nice backdrop of the lake. The food is also nice. Other options are Yeti and Kunzum Travel Cafe.

The best way to reach Hauz Khas village is via metro. It is available on the yellow line.

Qutub Minar

On the similar route as the Hauz Khas is the Qutub Minar which is one of the famous places to visit in Delhi. The monument is visible from the yellow metro line and there is even a metro station to Qutub Minar. Once you reach the metro, you can take an auto to Qutub Minar for 50/- INR which will take you to the main site. There is also a parking facility so you can plan accordingly.

As soon as you enter, you will find a big park with remains , most of the architectural units are not well maintained. You can see the minar from outside but no entry is allowed inside it. If you are active, you can capture the minar with a backdrop of an airplane.

The minar also lights up at night, and can be visited after sunset only to experience the place in the night backdrop.

There are many food stalls outside the Qutub Minar campus. There is no food allowed inside the visiting area. Selfie sticks and tripods are also not allowed.

Entry fees and timings

The entry fees is 40/- INR and it is open from 7am to 9pm

India Gate

Situated in the heart of the city, the India Gate is one of the iconic places in Delhi. This place has been renovated recently with parks and places to eat to attract more visitors. The garden also has a huge fountain which provides relief to locals in summers while visiting. This place is mainly a war memorial and our Indian heroes’ names are engraved over the gate. Just opposite to the India Gate is the Rashtriya Pati Bhawan.

The gate looks lovely at night, all lit up. The Amar Jawan Jyoti is present on the India Gate.

The easiest way to reach the India Gate is by metro. You can take the metro to Connaught Place and then take an auto to India Gate.

India Gate is still very iconic in the sense you will find photographers still asking to take pictures from the old style camera and giving you a hard print. With the evolution of smartphones, things like these have become so uncommon. In case you visit India Gate and find a local for photography, do support the locals.

India Gate is also popular among cyclists and many marathons that are run over weekends cover the India Gate.

There is no entry fees and visitors can come here anytime. However, you visit inside the gate you need to be here after 6am. There are no proper restaurants or cafes here, just a few locals selling snacks and tea.

Connaught Place

How can you visit Delhi and not go to Connaught Place aka CP? This place is a hub for college students and couples. The main circle has a huge park where you can sit back and enjoy some time with your friends. The fountain show starts in the evening in the park. You will also find few people in the band performing live.

There are a lot of food options in CP. From the classics like CCD(Cafe Coffee Day), Haldiram, Burma Burma, McDonald’s to niche cafes, bars etc you will find a number of options in CP. During weekends most of the eateries are full. There are some fun activities to try as well – Madame Tussauds museum, Mystery room, Museum of Illusions.

You can also visit Janpat Market which is very close to CP. The place is famous for affordable clothing and silver oxidized jewelry.

You can also visit Bangla Saheb Gurudwara a little far away from CP. You can take an auto to reach here. The place is one of the most peaceful places you will find in Delhi.

Humayun’s Tomb

This place is famous among tourists for being a famous monument from history. The monument was built in the 16th century and has amazing symmetrical architecture. The design is marvelous and you will surely love to go if you enjoy history.

The nearest metro is the Nizamuddin metro station. The ticket price is 35/- INR and is open from 6am to 9pm. If you want to avoid crowds, visit this place as early as possible.

Lodhi Art District

This is one of the offbeat places to visit in Delhi and has become really popular in recent times due to references in many Bollywood movies. There is no single point actually cover here. Get down to Lodhi Colony metro station and walk your way to Lodhi art roads. There are many lanes where you can simply walk around and many artists have painted the walls with beautiful paintings. Some of them have really deep messages, some link to cultural relevances of India. This is a very different experience altogether and you will definitely love it if you are into art or photography. There are no entry fees to visit this place.

The park is way too big and you can even explore around for different kinds of flowers, birds, ponds and greenery. You will find locals going for an evening walk around the park. The tomb is beautiful, well designed and so symmetrical. Since this place is free to visit, you can even go for photowalk or re wedding shoots here. You will not find many food options here so better keep something with you while traveling.
